Jason Andrew Knapp was a 20-year-old college student who lived in Clemson, South Carolina. He lived on campus at the University Terrace Apartments at Clemson University. Knapp had a roommate and he was last seen alive on April 11, 1998, at around 10 PM. According to his roommate, he was watching a movie. There isn’t much in the media about Jason. According to various sites, it was not unusual for his roommate not to see Jason for a week or so. In the newspapers, they report Jason Knapp was last seen at a fast food restaurant near campus.

The Charley project reports he was last seen by his roommate. Either way, Jason Knapp was last seen 11th April 1998. Jason was 6’0, 150 pounds with a DOB of 12/30/1977. He was last seen wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans, blue sneakers and possibly a hat with the Army ROTC insignia and a watch. I found this really bad photo of Jason’s parents at the search.

Abandoned Vehicle

Jason’s vehicle, a white 1990 Chevrolet Beretta with the Pennsylvania license plate number APV9032 was discovered abandoned nine days after he was last seen on April 11 1998. The Police would search the vehicle and find a receipt from a local Wendy’s dated 11th April. This would match up with the newspaper reports about Jason last being seen at a fast food restaurant. We can assume the car arrived at Table Rock State Park after this on the 12th. Between the 11th and 21st there are reports of extreme weather. In one report it mentions a bridge has been washed away. Extensive searches would be carried out but nothing related to Jason would be found.

Confirmed Fingerprint

A year later, in 1999 the FBI released information stating they found Jason’s fingerprint on a parking stub with the date of April 11th 1998 @ 3:30 PM. This confirms Jason was in the vehicle on this date. This would be the only lead that would ever be found in the disappearance of Jason Knapp. Given the fact there was bad weather and Jason didn’t appear to be suffering from mental health issues I suspect he went for a hike and had an accident. The FBI clearly went to great lengths to test his vehicle and possessions.
