Oscar Florence Hintta Missing in Ottawa National Forest
Oscar Florence Hintta, age 69, vanished while deer hunting on November 16th, 1988. He and a friend were hunting along Forest Service Road 1100 in the Ottawa National Forest. The two men split up with a plan to meet back at the vehicle at 1 PM.
Oscar never returned.
His friend searched briefly, then reported him missing a few hours later.
Who Was Oscar Hintta?
Descriptions of Oscar vary slightly, but he was believed to be:
- 5'0"–6'0" tall
- 130–210 lbs
- Grey hair
- 69 years old
At the time he vanished, Oscar was carrying a .30‑06 Weatherby or Sako rifle with a scope. He was dressed in full hunter‑orange:
- jacket
- pants
- hat
- gloves
He also wore Sorel hunting boots.
Oscar was a diabetic and had a heart condition, but he was experienced in the woods and familiar with the area.
The Search for Oscar Hintta
Search and rescue teams launched a three‑day search. Then the weather turned catastrophic.
A freak storm rolled in, dumping record‑breaking rainfall that quickly shifted into heavy, wet snow. The storm buried tracks, erased scent trails, and made aerial searching nearly impossible.
Despite the effort, no trace of Oscar was ever found:
- no clothing
- no gear
- no remains
- no rifle
Nothing.
The hunter‑orange clothing alone should have been visible for decades. The rifle should still be out there somewhere. Yet neither has ever surfaced.
Oscar Hintta simply vanished.
Vanished.us Says
Another hunter disappears after separating from a partner for just a few hours. Another case where nothing is ever found—not even the bright orange clothing or the rifle that should outlast a century in the forest.
This pattern shows up again and again:
- experienced hunter
- brief separation
- sudden disappearance
- no remains
- no gear
- no weapon
And in Oscar’s case, even a massive storm doesn’t explain the total lack of evidence. Storms bury things temporarily—they don’t erase rifles, boots, or hunter‑orange jackets from existence.
Oscar Florence Hintta walked into the woods and never walked out. The forest kept everything.
