We have limited information on Fred Werm Comstock or how he went missing. If you can provide factional information for this article please send it to site”-at-“vanished.us
Fred Werm Comstock was hiking in Yosemite National Park with a female companion and her son which he had recently met. Fred was 19 years old, 5′-11″ – 6′-1″. Weighed in at about 150 – 165 lbs. At Vogelsang High Sierra Camp they agreed Fred would hike back to Tuolumne Meadows to collect the female’s car (Point of separation) and drive it to Yosemite Valley where he would meet with her. Fred was never seen again. His personal belongings like his wallet were left in the car. This suggests he never made it back and something happened to him on the return journey.
This doesn’t make sense. Yosemite Vally is a fair way from Vogelsang High Sierra Camp. By the time Fred had collected the car and drove to Yosemite Vally the female would still be hiking there. Let’s look at this on a Map.
You can clearly see Fred’s route back to the car in Black with the location of the car in Blue. We don’t know exactly where the vehicle was parked by that’s the general area. The female’s route to Yosemite Valley in red is much longer. Over twice the distance. He would be in Yosemite Vally before the female and her son. Also, why go back to the car separately. They’re out for a hike all three of them. There is no reason to split up. If I was investigating this case I would be all over this woman like a rash. If she is innocent then maybe a 19 year old wanted to cut off the corner of the trail and save some time. If that’s the case the only shortcut is the area in Black and that’s where something likely happened. My first choice would be the woman though I think that’s why Fred Comstock is missing.
