Bryce Florian — Disappeared From the Shi Shi Beach Trail
Six‑year‑old Bryce Florian vanished from the Shi Shi Beach Trail on the Makah Indian Reservation on April 9, 1995. He had been hiking with his parents and sister, enjoying a picnic on the beach before the family began their return trip.
At the time he disappeared, Bryce was wearing:

- Green pants
- White socks
- White Mighty Morphin Power Rangers shoes with red and white lightning bolts
This was an ordinary family outing — until it wasn’t.
The Last Time Bryce Was Seen
After the picnic, the family attempted to climb a slope using a rope. Bryce struggled with the climb, so they agreed to meet him at the top. That moment — a brief separation — was the last time anyone ever saw Bryce alive.
He was simply gone.
The Search for Bryce
Bryce’s grandfather was the local chief of police, and the response was immediate and extensive. Search teams included:
- Coast Guard units
- Divers
- Tracker dogs
- Ground teams combing the beach and the surrounding forest
Despite the scale of the effort, nothing was found.
On the beach, searchers discovered footprints matching Bryce’s shoe size. But these prints were strange: they appeared in short segments, with gaps between them. They would track for a distance, disappear, then reappear again.
One interpretation is unsettling but plausible — someone could have been partially carrying him, putting him down intermittently as he struggled or resisted.
Investigators at the time suggested Bryce may have been swept out to sea. But if that were the case, the footprints near the waterline would likely have been washed away. Instead, they remained intact.
Decades later, no trace of Bryce has ever been found.
