Who Was Ruthanne Ruppert?
Ruthanne Ruppert was 49 years old, 5'5", and around 140 lbs. She had brown hair, brown eyes, and one distinguishing feature: a prosthetic eye. She was last seen at the Yosemite Medical Clinic at 12:00 PM on August 14th, 2000.
Ruthanne had planned a backpacking trip but postponed it due to medical issues. Despite this, search and rescue later concluded she may have attempted a day hike from Yosemite Falls toward the Foresta area.
She was never seen again.
Items Found
In 2008, hikers discovered a backpack belonging to Ruthanne in the Fireplace Creek drainage area—far from where she was believed to be hiking. Search teams later rappelled down a cliff face and found a chewed boot, also linked to her.
Nothing else has ever been recovered.
No clothing. No gear. Not even her prosthetic eye—which should have survived intact.
